FORT MYERS, Fla. (March 13, 2014) – The Boys & Girls Clubs of Lee County joins more than 4,000 Boys & Girls Clubs across America and on U.S. military installations with its annual celebration of National Boys & Girls Club Week from March 23 to 29. The weeklong celebration calls attention to the important role Boys & Girls Clubs play in the support and success of nearly four million young people each year.
This year’s theme – ‘Open the Door. Take the Tour.’ – encourages the communities, families, friends and supporters of Club members to experience first-hand how Boys & Girls Clubs are making a difference in the lives of young people. The BGCLC’s local tour will take place on Friday, March 28 from 4:30 to 5:40 p.m. at its Pueblo Bonito Club located at 26120 Pueblo Bonito Boulevard in Bonita Springs.
“At the heart of our organization is a desire to positively influence the lives of young people in our community,” said Shannon Lane, chief professional officer of the BGCLC. “We are more than just a ‘hangout.’ We want the citizens of Southwest Florida to experience the life-changing programs we offer to the hundreds of local kids our Clubs serve every day. Boys & Girls Club Week is a great time to see how we impact the lives of young people through programs aimed to promote academic success, good character and healthy lifestyles.”
During the weeklong celebration, participants can also visit www.greatfutures.org/bgcweek and take a virtual tour of other Boys & Girls Clubs. Virtual-tour participants are eligible to enter a contest for a chance to win a $500 Lowe’s or $250 Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores gift card.
Celebrating 40 years of providing quality youth programs and brighter futures for young people in our community, the Boys & Girls Clubs works to inspire and enable young people to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. The BGCLC strives to provide a safe, world-class Club experience that assures success is within reach of every young person who walks through its doors. The organization envisions all of its members graduating high school with a plan for the future, demonstrating good character and citizenship and living a healthy lifestyle.
Clubs are located in communities with the greatest need where similar services are limited or nonexistent. Membership dues are $10 per school year so that all children can have access to its programs. The BGCLC relies upon the philanthropic support of individuals, corporations and foundations in order to sustain and grow its services.
