FORT MYERS, Fla. (Jan. 28, 2015) – The Red Sox Foundation recently donated $50,000 to local nonprofits.

The funds were raised during the Red Sox’s 2014 Swings For the Sox golf tournament. The Children’s Advocacy Center of Southwest Florida and The Immokalee Foundation each received $25,000.

The tournament was held on Friday, Oct. 17 at Tiburon Golf Club located at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort in Naples. Organized by the Red Sox Foundation, the golf tournament included a scramble format with prizes for the longest drive, putting, closest to the pin and more.

In three years, this event has raised approximately $120,000 for local nonprofits.

The gross winners of this year’s tournament were Brad Shipley, Rusty Whitley, Ben Lane and Rick Johnston. The net winners were Brian Trecek, David Doran, Brandon Hume and Hank Porter.

Prior to the tournament, JetBlue Park hosted a Party in the Park “Tee Off” Party that included dinner courtesy of Rib City on the Green Monster, self-guided tours, a one-of-a-kind silent auction and raffle prizes. The night also included opportunities for participants to take batting practice swings from home plate for the chance to win Spring Training season tickets for 2015.

This year’s event was presented by The Boston Globe and The Hertz Corporation and was sponsored by Lee Memorial Health Systems Foundation, Marco Island Marriott, CVS Caremark, FAS Global International LLC, Westin Resort Cape Coral, DLD Builders, Aramark, Jerseys Sports Café, Service Painting of SW Florida, Gerber Collision, Marquis Wealth Management, First Watch Restaurants and Rib City.

Founded in 1981, the mission of the Children’s Advocacy Center of Southwest Florida (CAC) is to improve the lives of children and their families through a coordinated response to child abuse and neglect.

The Immokalee Foundation provides a range of education programs that focus on building pathways to success through college and post-secondary preparation and support, mentoring and tutoring, opportunities for broadening experiences and life skills development leading to economic independence.

The Red Sox Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and the official team charity of the Boston Red Sox. The Foundation’s primary focus locally is in serving the health, education, recreation and social service needs of children and families across Southwest Florida.
