FORT MYERS, Fla. (Nov. 3, 2015) – The Red Sox Foundation’s fourth annual Swings For The Sox golf tournament, held Friday, Oct. 23, raised more than $70,000.

Proceeds from this year’s tournament will benefit the newly created Red Sox Scholarship in partnership with the Foundation for Lee County Public Schools, Inc. The Red Sox Foundation plans to award a $5,000 scholarship to attend college to one deserving student from each of the 13 public high schools in Lee County.

The tournament took place at Tiburon Golf Club, located at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort, and featured a scramble format with prizes for the longest drive, putting, closest to the pin and more.

The winning foursome with the lowest gross score included Chris Black, David Steele, Brad Dohak and Rokki Rogan. The team with the lowest net score included Jon Romine, Brian Smith, Brent Gibson and Bryan Blackwell.

Prior to the tournament, JetBlue Park at Fenway South, the Red Sox’s 106-acre Spring Training and Player Development Complex located at 11500 Fenway South Drive, hosted a Party in the Park “Tee Off” Party on Thursday, Oct. 22. All guests enjoyed complimentary ballpark bites and drinks. The night also included self-guided tours, a one-of-a-kind silent auction and raffle prizes and opportunities for participants to take batting practice swings from home plate for the chance to win 2016 Spring Training season tickets.

“We were very excited that the first four years of this local Red Sox Foundation golf tournament not only sold out but has raised $180,000 for local nonprofits,” said Katie Haas, senior director of Florida business operations.

This year’s presenting sponsor was DLD Builders, LLC. Additional sponsors included CVS Caremark, The Hertz Corporation, Galloway Ford, Aramark, Marco Island Marriott, Boston Globe, Duffy’s Sports Grill, Crowther Roofing, Sullivan Tire, Marquis Wealth Management, Westin Resort Cape Coral, Suffolk Construction and Waste Pro.

The Red Sox Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and the official team charity of the Boston Red Sox. The foundation’s primary focus locally is in serving the health, education, recreation and social service needs of children and families across Southwest Florida. The Red Sox Foundation is one of the most successful in all of Major League Baseball.
