NAPLES, Fla. (March 29, 2016) – Naples pioneer and developer, Glen Sample, began creating the unique enclave known as Port Royal in the early 1950s. He set high standards for Port Royal’s development, including the requirement that home plans must be drawn up by an architect, approved by the Port Royal Association and constructed by his preferred builder.
Sample selected the construction firm of A. Vernon Allen Builder, Inc. (AVA) as his first recommended builder of homes in the area that stretches south from 21st Avenue South to Gordon Pass and bounded on the west by the Gulf of Mexico and on the east by Naples Bay.
Established in 1951, AVA celebrates 65 years as one of the oldest and finest custom-home builders in Naples. Company Principal John Remington, who worked for Mr. Allen in the 1970s, purchased the company in 1977 and continued the founder’s vision for nearly 40 years. Southwest Florida natives, Ryan Benson and Andy Bringardner, later joined AVA 10 years ago and assumed the leadership roles as the newest generation of owners. Both are certified general contractors and have business degrees to ensure the company’s continued success and viability.

As Naples grew through the decades, AVA did, too. It is still very active in Port Royal and, through the years, expanded to specialize in new custom homes as well as remodels and additions in the neighborhoods of Old Naples, Park Shore, Moorings.
Today, the company has more than 30 employees, many of whom have worked for AVA for more than 25 years. Through the firm’s history, it has worked with multiple generations of client families and has kept archives on the homes it has originally built. During the past six decades, AVA has had some type of construction involvement in more than 100 home sites within the Port Royal community.
