$65,000 in scholarship funds to be awarded

 

FORT MYERS, Fla. (Oct. 11, 2017) – The Boston Red Sox Foundation, in partnership with the Foundation for Lee County Public Schools, will once again be awarding thirteen $5,000 scholarships in the spring of 2018 to one deserving student from each of the 13 public high schools in Lee County.

 

Applications are now open and available to local Lee County public high school seniors by contacting their school guidance counselor, or Courtney Wood at Courtney@leeschoolfoundation.org, by calling  239-337-0433 or online at http://www.leeschoolfoundation.org/programs/student-programs/wp-takestock/.

 

Applications are due by Monday, December 18th. The scholarship is for academically talented students who have shown a commitment to community service are are pursuing a two- or four- year degree at any college or university.

 

Scholarship funds are raised annually from proceeds of the Red Sox annual Swings for the Sox Golf Tournament.

 

“Unfortunately we had to cancel this year’s tournament due to Hurricane Irma, but the Red Sox Foundation still committed to providing the funds for these scholarships,” said Katie Haas, vice president of Florida business operations for the Boston Red Sox. “Education is an important area of focus for our foundation and we are excited to once again provide scholarships to our promising students who will be this community’s next leaders.”

 

The first five years of the Red Sox Swings For The Sox golf tournament has raised $260,000 for local nonprofits.

 

The Red Sox Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and the official team charity of the Boston Red Sox. The foundation’s primary focus locally is in serving the health, education, recreation and social service needs of children and families across Southwest Florida. The Red Sox Foundation is one of the most successful in all of Major League Baseball.
